- No, I didn't mean that WB 1.3 should be considered (reading that again I
- realize I worded it wrong...sorry!). I meant that I think at this point
- it is still beneficial to consider WB 2.0+, since many people still have
- these older versions.

- I don't think that the comparison to the PC domain is a very good one
- here. I mean, the Amiga community has been fortunate enough (depending
- upon how you look at it) that the Amiga OS isn't always being upgraded as
- quickly as the OS for PCs. With the Amiga, you don't get left behind as
- quickly. With the PC, you buy what you think is the latest OS, and very
- soon you find yourself far behind again, and that new software won't run
- on your system.
-
- I'm not whining here that older versions of the Amiga OS aren't being
- supported. But I am trying to appreciate that I can still find WB
- v2.1-compatible software. Believe it or not, I used WB 1.3 on my A500 up
- to just over a year ago (around Oct/Nov of '94). I know that sounds
- ridiculous, but I was able to get by. I finally put out some money and
- bought WB 2.1, and have been happily using it ever since. I find lots of
- software on Aminet that happily supports both WB 2.1/3.1, even offering
- support for 3.1-only features, if they're available.
-
- Sure, perhaps especially where commercial software is concerned, a
- separate version has to be offered for pre-3.1, but I'd say they still
- make money off them. So what's wrong with that?
-
- Sure, in time (could be another year, could be only months) more people
- will be forced to move to 3.1 since software will only support that. But
- for now, I'll have to stick with 2.1 until I can dish out $100 for the
- upgrade (is it less than this yet?).
